Power has been restored to 1,800 customers in Lebanon after a downed line created an outage this morning.

Rescue crews were already checking on the elderly and people with medical conditions when the outage hit southern and western Lebanon, said Assistant Rescue Chief Jason Cole.

Crews were offering residents cold bottled water and access to cooling stations for those who don’t have air conditioning.

The loss of power happened at 10:48 a.m. and was back at 12:10 p.m., according to Central Maine Power Co. The downed line was unrelated to the day’s heat.

Extremely high temperatures and poor air quality are posing a hazard for people with breathing problems, according to public health officials.
