PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Peter McHugh scored two goals, including the winner less than a minute into the second half, as the University of Southern Maine pulled away from Plymouth State for a 3-0 win in a Little East men’s soccer match on Saturday. 

Huskies (2-6, 2-0) pulled away from the Panthers (2-4-1, 0-2) in a Little East game at Plymouth, N.H.

Nick Johnson also scored a goal for the Huskies (2-6, 2-0) and David Kreps made nine saves for the shutout.

The Panthers (2-4-1, 0-2) outshot the Huskies, 20-8.

ST. JOSEPH’S 0, EMMANUEL 0: Nick Campasano finished with three saves for the Monks (4-4-2, 1-1-1) as they played to a scoreless draw against the Saints (4-4-1, 2-0-1) in a GNAC game at Standish.

The Monks dominated play but were unable to get a goal despite outshooting the Saints 23-10.

WILLIAMS 2, COLBY 1: Matt Ratajczak scored on an assist from Gaston Kelly 8:30 into overtime to lift the fourth-ranked Ephs (4-0-1, 2-0-1) over the Mules (3-2, 1-2) in a NESCAC game at Williamstown, Mass.

BATES 2, TRINITY 1: Patrick Jackson scored in the fifth minute of overtime to give the Bobcats (2-2-1, 1-1-1 NESCAC) a win over the Bantams (2-3, 0-3) at Hartford, Conn.

MIDDLEBURY 2, BOWDOIN 0: Alex Colucci and Tyler Smith scored for the Panthers (5-0, 4-0 NESCAC) as they shut down the Polar Bears (1-1-2, 0-1-2) at Middlebury, Vt.

Tim Cahill made four saves for the shutout.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

USM 5, PLYMOUTH STATE 0: Cathy Wise and Danielle Poulin scored two goals apiece to pace the Huskies (3-6, 1-1) as they cruised to a Little East win over the Panthers (3-5, 0-2) at Gorham.

Heidi DeHaan also scored for the Huskies, heading in a corner kick from Chelsea Norton.

Southern Maine keepers Kat Rothe and Katie Cobb combined to make five saves.

EMMANUEL 3, ST. JOSEPH’S 2: Hillary Rouse scored with 4:06 left in regulation to break a 2-2 tie and lift the Saints (3-7, 1-4) to a GNAC win over the Monks (5-2, 3-2) at Standish.

Cassie Diplock opened the scoring for the Monks in the 31st minute. Emmanuel responded with two goals in the next five minutes to take a 2-1 halftime lead.

St. Joseph’s got the equalizer when Mikayla Call scored on an assist from Katherine Chambers midway through the second half.

UNE 1, GORDON 0: Kristin Meza scored on a penalty kick in the 61st minute to break a scoreless tie and lift the Nor’easters (6-2, 3-1) to a Commonwealth Coast Conference win over the Fighting Scots (6-3, 2-2) at Biddeford.

WILLIAMS 4, COLBY 0: Sara Wild had two goals and two assists to lead the Ephs (5-1-1, 2-0-1 NESCAC) past the Mules (1-1-3, 0-1-3) at Williamstown, Mass.

MIDDLEBURY 2, BOWDOIN 1: Annie Rowell scored off a cross from Caroline Downer to lift the Panthers (3-2-1, 1-2-0 NESCAC) over the Polar Bears (2-2-1, 1-2-1) in overtime at Middlebury, Vt.

Nora Tomlinson-Weintraub gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead when she blasted one from 16 yards in the first half.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY

MAINE 11, SACRED HEART 0: Danielle Ward and Myriam Croussette each scored two goals as the Black Bears (2-0) dominated the Pioneers (0-2) at Orono.

Brittany Dougherty added one goal and three assists for Black Bears, who scored five goals in both the second and third period.

FIELD HOCKEY

USM 5, ECSU 1: Whitney McDaniel scored twice to help the Huskies (4-6, 2-1 Little East) beat the Warriors (2-5, 0-3) at Gorham.

Rachel Trafton, Joanna Gaube and Laura Campbell also scored for Southern Maine.

Ashley Del Vecchio scored for Eastern Connecticut.

TRINITY 5, BATES 1: Hadley Duncan scored twice and Christy Bradley had a goal and an assist as the Bantams (3-2, 2-1 NESCAC) downed the Bobcats (1-4, 0-4) at Hartford, Conn.

ST. JOSEPH’S 3, HUSSON 2: Courtney Rague scored four minutes into overtime to lift the Monks (5-2) over the Eagles (2-4) in a North Atlantic Conference opener at Bangor.

Meaghan Johnson made 19 saves for the Monks.

UNE 4, WESTERN NEW ENGLAND 1: Hayley LaPointe scored twice in the second half as the Nor’easters (4-4, 2-1 Commonwealth Coast) used three unanswered goals to down the Golden Bears (3-6, 2-1) at Biddeford.

WILLIAMS 4, COLBY 3: Nicolle Perry at 6:18 of overtime to give Williams a win (2-2, 1-2 NESCAC) over Colby (1-3, 0-3) at Williamstown, Mass.

BOWDOIN 1, MIDDLEBURY 0: Cathleen Smith redirected a shot by Ellan Curren on a penalty corner with 5:50 left in regulation to lift the seventh-ranked Polar Bears (5-0, 3-0 NESCAC) over the Panthers (2-2, 1-2) at Brunswick.

BASEBALL

NHTI SWEEPS SMCC: Kevin Lee and Chris Heney each hit two-run doubles during a five-run sixth inning and NHTI (7-4) held on for an 8-7 win over the Seawolves (2-8) in the opening game of a doubleheader at South Portland.

NHTI completed the sweep with an 18-3, five-inning victory. Jeremy Gearty hit a two-run double for the Seawolves.
