SKOWHEGAN — The Maine State Police tactical team shot a man Monday night after he confronted officers with a weapon, police said this morning.

The incident happened on the Middle Road, Route 104, about 6 miles from downtown Skowhegan.

Lt. Donald Pomelow, of State Police Troop C Barracks in Skowhegan, said the man’s wounds were serious, but not life-threatening. The victim’s name was not released nor were details of why police were called to the location in the first place.

The Maine Attorney General’s office is investigating. Skowhegan police are not commenting.

Route 104 was closed to all but police and emergency traffic in both directions beginning at about 6 p.m. Monday.

The shooting happened at a small log home with a large front porch surrounded by trees. The home is more than 100 feet from the road. It is near the Fox’s Den, about 100 yards from the Fairfield town line.

Police said additional details will be released later today.
