EASTPORT — Officials in Eastport, Maine, say a Florida-based luxury yacht builder is proposing to buy a city-owned boat-building school and add a yacht-manufacturing business with up to 100 jobs.
City Manager Jon Southern tells the Bangor Daily News that David Marlow, of Marlow Yachts, approached the City Council this week and floated a proposal to buy The Boat School. The city owns the school and leases it to Husson University for its marine trades program.
Marlow told the council he’d like to expand The Boat School program from two to four years, expand the existing boatyard and build an onsite manufacturing plant.
Marlow, who has a seasonal home in Brooksville, could not be reached for comment.
