SACO – Bonny Eagle field hockey is beginning to look increasingly like a team of destiny rather than an upstart from the basement of the rankings.

After knocking out second-ranked Westbrook on Oct. 19, the seventh-seeded Scots were tested in yet another overtime thriller on Oct. 23, this time against Thornton Academy. And, once again, Bonny Eagle failed to disappoint. Up 1-0 midway through the second half, the Scots fought off repeated assaults by the Golden Trojans, only to see TA tie things up with just 24 seconds left. Rather than cave in, Bonny Eagle entered the overtime still looking strong, and with just 2:31 left in the first OT, senior foward Peyton Dostie connected on a penalty cross with senior forward Nicole DeMidio, who slashed in the winning shot.

The victory sends the Scots to a finals matchup against the Stags of Cheverus (who completed their own 2-1 upset against last-season’s state champion Scarborough Red Storm on Saturday) on Oct. 26.
