WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Hannah Breton scored on a breakaway with 25:18 remaining Thursday night to lead sixth-seeded University of Maine to a 1-0 victory over No. 3 Hartford in an America East women’s soccer quarterfinal.

SOUTHERN MAINE 2, NEW ENGLAND COLLEGE 1: Laura Campbell scored from Jennifer Masessa in the 62nd minute to give the Huskies (7-12) a victory over the Pilgrims (10-9) at Gorham.

NORTH CAROLINA STATE 28, (16) FLORIDA STATE 24: Russell Wilson threw a fourth-down touchdown pass to George Bryan with 2:40 left to help the Wolfpack (6-2, 3-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) rally from a big halftime deficit and beat the Seminoles (6-2, 4-1) at Raleigh, N.C.

Wilson also ran for three scores for the Wolfpack, who trailed 21-7 at the break before ending a three-game losing streak to the Seminoles. With the win, N.C. State surpassed its victory total for last season.

Trailing 24-21, the Wolfpack drove to the FSU 1 but failed on three attempts to get into the end zone before Wilson found Bryan after a play-action fake for an easy score.

Florida State drove to the N.C. State 4 in the final minute, but Christian Ponder fumbled on what appeared to be a play-action fake and Nate Irving recovered with 48 seconds left to seal the win.

NOTES: Binghamton bought out the contract of former men’s basketball coach Kevin Broadus. In exchange for his resignation and withdrawal of all claims and potential future lawsuits, Broadus will receive a $1.2 million settlement. Broadus filed a racial discrimination lawsuit in March, and one of his attorneys had asked for his reinstatement after the NCAA announced last week that an investigation found no major violations during Broadus’ tenure. The program was hit hard after star guard Emanuel Mayben was arrested just over a year ago on charges of selling crack cocaine. Five other players were dismissed and Broadus was suspended with pay for making illegal contact with recruits. … Jared Swopshire, a junior forward on the Louisville men’s basketball team, is out indefinitely with a groin injury. Coach Rick Pitino said Swopshire has been slow to recover from an injury sustained during the offseason while he was working out on a track with family members. … Chris L. Rucker, a defensive back for Michigan State, was reinstated after serving eight days in jail following a drunken-driving arrest. Coach Mark Dantonio said it would be Rucker’s decision whether he travels with the team when the fifth-ranked Spartans play Saturday at No. 18 Iowa.
