LEWISTON – Colby built a 10-0 lead late in the third quarter and held off Bates for a 10-6 victory Saturday in a New England Small College Athletic Conference football game.

Lester Batiste tackled Bates quarterback Trevor Smith at the Colby 5 on a fourth-down play with 3 seconds remaining to preserve the win.

The White Mules (3-3) led 3-0 at halftime on a 21-yard field goal by David Bendit, then made it 10-0 when Spencer Gopaul took a screen pass from Nick Kmetz 41 yards, followed by Bendit’s extra-point kick.

Bates (1-5) rallied when defensive end Tyler Kuehl picked off a tipped pass and returned it 71 yards to set up a 1-yard scoring run by Jared Jammal.

Kmetz completed 17 of 26 passes for 197 yards, and Patrick Burns pulled down five receptions for 100 yards. Connor Walsh had four catches for 42 yards and also threw a 37-yard completion to Burns, and Connor Tidgwell rushed 13 times for 35 yards.

WESLEYAN 41, BOWDOIN 7: Matt Coyne threw for 205 yards and three touchdowns and Shea Dwyer rushed for 164 yards and a score as the Cardinals (4-2) rolled past the Polar Bears (1-5) at Middletown, Conn.

Wesleyan outgained Bowdoin 531-207.

Zach Donnarumma scored on an 8-yard run in the third quarter and was the Polar Bears’ leading rusher with 47 yards.

 

MAINE MARITIME 35, BRIDGEWATER STATE 13: Matt Rende rushed for 121 yards and a touchdown and also threw a 31-yard touchdown pass as the Mariners (7-1, 5-1 New England Football Conference) downed the Bears (5-4, 3-3) at Bridgewater, Conn.

Jim Bower rushed for 163 yards and a touchdown, and Nic Bourassa ran for 109 yards and two scores.

MOUNT IDA 25, HUSSON 23: The Eagles (1-8) failed to hold a 23-13 lead and lost to Mount Ida (5-3) at Bangor.

Husson took a 9-0 lead on Jack Hersom’s 2-yard touchdown pass to Travis Barnies and a 30-yard field goal by Lee Gustin.

The Eagles led 23-13 in the second quarter after a 7-yard touchdown run by Justin Lindie.

 

YALE 31, COLUMBIA 28: Patrick Witt threw three second-quarter touchdown passes and Yale (5-2, 3-1 Ivy League) held off Columbia (3-4, 1-3) at New Haven, Conn.

Witt found Cameron Sandquist for 10- and 15-yard scores and hit Allen Harris for a 16-yarder 35 seconds before halftime to give the Bulldogs a 31-7 lead.

 

BOSTON COLLEGE 16, CLEMSON 10: Chase Rettig threw a 36-yard touchdown pass to Montel Harris, Nate Freese made a pair of field goals and Boston College (3-5, 1-4 Atlantic Coast Conference) stopped a five-game losing streak by holding off visiting Clemson (4-4, 2-3).

Harris ran 36 times for 142 yards, and Rettig completed 9 of 16 passes for 136 yards after throwing an interception that was returned for a touchdown on the third play of the game.

 

HARVARD 30, DARTMOUTH 14: Quarterback Collie Winters rushed for two touchdowns and passed for another score to lead Harvard (5-2, 3-1 Ivy League) over Dartmouth (4-3, 1-3) at Hanover, N.H.

Winters scored on runs of 1 and 5 yards in the first quarter to give the Crimson a 14-0 lead. He connected with Adam Chrissis on a 10-yard touchdown, pushing Harvard’s margin to 24 points in the second quarter.

 

BRYANT 24, ALBANY 7: Jordan Brown rushed for 200 yards and two touchdowns to lead Bryant (5-3, 2-3 Northeast Conference) to a win over Albany (3-5, 1-4) at Smithfield, R.I.

Brown’s second touchdown run gave the Bulldogs a 14-7 lead with 14:48 left in the second quarter.

 

CENTRAL CONN. STATE 38, WAGNER 20: Everette Benjamin carried 25 times for 104 yards and two touchdowns to lead Central Connecticut State (6-2, 5-0 Northeast Conference) over Wagner (4-4, 2-3) at New Britain, Conn.
