PORTLAND – For a time it looked like the upset of the year was brewing at Cheverus on Saturday. No. 8 Windham had burst out to a 27-14 lead over the No. 1 Stags and were in control of the contest.
But the Stags, led by quarterback Peter Gwilym, who threw three of his four touchdown passes in an explosive third quarter, outlasted Windham and won 34-27 to survive in the Class A football playoffs. The Stags now move on and will face Scarborough next week.
