THETFORD, Vt. — Emily Durgin, a junior at Cheverus High School, failed to defend her championship today in the 76th New England Cross Country Championships at Thetford Academy.

Durgin finished second to Linday Crevoiserat of Glastonbury, Conn., who had a winning time of 19 minutes, 11.4 seconds. Durgin’s time was 19:23.2.

Cheverus finished fourth in team scoring with 196 points.

Crevoiserat’s win ended a two-year Maine reign. Two years ago, Kennebunk High’s Abbey Leonardi won the race.

Old Town’s Dacie Manion was 10th (20:08.5).

In the boys’ race, Fryeburg Academy’s Silas Eastman was the top Maine finisher, 20th in 17:19.3. Robert Allen of Cranston, R.I., won the race in 16:28.5
