GORHAM – Corteze Isaac scored 16 points to pace the University of Southern Maine men’s basketball team to a 79-62 win over UM-Presque Isle. The win gives USM (3-0) its best start since the 1998-’99 season.

Otis Smith and Chris Pagentine added 13 each as Southern Maine led 33-28 at the half.

Gerardo Vasquez registered 19 points for Presque Isle in the loss. Clifford McDonald added 18. 

HUSSON 74, UNE 51: Jay Uhrin scored 21 points to power the Eagles (2-1) in a win over the Nor’Easters (0-4) during the Elms College Blazers Tip-Off Tournament at Chicopee, Mass.

UNE went up 6-0 at the start of the game, but Husson rebounded with a 19-2 run. Uhrin finished 4 for 5 from beyond the arc with three 3-pointers in the first half, building a 36-24 lead.

Marcus Winn led New England with 17 points, and Ryan Knotek added 15.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

UNE 67, CLARK 58: Down 44-28 in the third quarter, Carrie Bunnell and Kelley Paradis combined for 13 points to jumpstart a 20-point run as the Nor’Easters (4-0) went on to defeat the Cougars (1-2) at the Emerson College Tip-Off Tournament in Boston. UNE forced 12 turnovers and held Clark to just 16 points in the second half.

COLBY 54, RENSSELAER 48: Jules Kowalski scored 16 points and made 10 rebounds, and Jill Vaughan added 10 points and 10 rebounds as the Mules (2-0) beat the Engineers (1-2) at the Amherst College Women’s Basketball Tip-Off Tournament. Colby led 8-0 at the start of the game and its lead grew to a game-high 13 at one point.
