The Bowdoin men’s soccer team saw a late lead evaporate in the final minutes of regulation before losing 2-1 in overtime to Lynchburg in the semifinals of the NCAA Division III tournament Friday afternoon in San Antonio, Texas.

Ben Brewster, a first-year student from Cape Elizabeth, gave Bowdoin a 1-0 lead early in the second half. That lead held up until Lynchburg scored with 2:01 on the clock to force overtime.

A header by Stephen Brooks after a throw-in gave Lynchburg the victory 16 seconds before the end of overtime. Lynchburg will face Messiah, a 4-1 winner over Wisconsin-Oshkosh, in Saturday’s championship match.

Bowdoin ends its season with a record of 15-2-3. Bowdoin goalkeeper Dan Hicks finished with six saves.
