Boys Ice Hockey

Coach: Mark Whitman

Last year’s record: 2-15-1

Key players: The Scots hope to get a lift from seniors Sean Walsh, Shawn Parmenter, Nick Cawood and Joe Call. Augmenting this experienced group will be sophomores Connor Shields and Garrett McElrath, along with junior Chris Derrah.

Key games this season: Bonny Eagle draws stiff competition right out of the gate, facing Scarborough on Dec. 14. Whitman also identified the Scots’ games against Westbrook, Gorham and Noble potentially defining moments of the 2010-11 campaign.

Season outlook: “It should be an interesting year,” Whitman said. “Our offense and goaltending are very inexperienced, though on defense we are returning key contributors from last year’s team. The team has worked hard in the preseason.”

Wrestling

Coach: Mike Lang

Key wrestlers: The Scots will look to Ryan Cook to once again perform well, after he took second place at states last spring. Similarly, Kyle Mairs, who placed third last year, will also work to retain his position as one of the top wrestlers in Maine. Finally, Troy Severance and Tyler Murray, who were both state qualifiers, will look to make deeper inroads into the end-of-season rankings.

Key meets this season: Lang said that the Scots are really anticipating both the Noble and Redskin tournaments.

Season outlook: “We graduated a lot of seniors last year,” Lang said. “If the remaining team continues to work hard, and our leaders set the right examples, I think we will have a positive year as a team. We should be very competitive.”

Coach: Greg Wilkinson

Key athletes: Seniors Joey Collins, Nate Martel and Kyle Bailey should lead the team, while juniors Jeremy Collins and Shane Corbett add depth to the group. Sophomore Tyson Goodale and freshman James Patchell will have to work hard to overcome their age and compete in their events.

Key meets this season: Under Wilkinson, the Scots are zeroing in on meets against Scarborough, Deering, Gorham, and South Portland.

Season outlook: “We hope to show improvement throughout the regular season, while at the same time qualifying numerous individuals for the state meet,” Wilkinson said. “I’m looking forward to coaching with my brother, John, the long-time Gorham head coach for track and cross country.”

Key Players: The Scots will look to team leaders like Steve Simonds, Cam McKague, Cole Libby, Levi Meggisson and Jeff Amell to lift them through the winter months.

Season Outlook: “With quite a few returning key players from last year, we look to improve on last year’s record,” Bourassa said. “This year’s team should be much more experienced, and we are expecting a lot out of our seniors.”

Last year’s record: 3-15

Key players: The Scots will be led by a pair of seniors in guard Sarah Assante and forward Nicole Taylor. Beyond these two, a trio of juniors – center Alicia Hoyt and guards Jessica MacDonald and Danielle Day – will support the team, along with sophomore guard Shannon Sanborn.

Season outlook: “We lost eight games last year in the final minutes,” Rondeau said. “Our aggressive defense is what kept us in games, but not having a consistent scorer was the reason for our struggle to win games. Sarah Assante will lead the us on both ends of the floor, as hard work on her offensive skills in the offseason will make her one of the best point guards in the SMAA. Taylor will be a solid player on the court, as she will be looked to help control the boards and the tempo of the game. Our success will be dependent on the development of the sophomores, who could get a lot of minutes this year.”

Girls Indoor Track

Coach: Stephanie Beattie

Last year’s record: Second place at states, lost by one point

Key athletes: “We have a few key seniors,” Beattie said. “Morgan Costa is one of our lead sprinters. Then there is Peyton Dostie, who is a good sprinter, as well as a great hurdler and jumper. Her sister, Amber Dostie, is our best middle distance runner.”

Key meets: “Whenever we are matched up against Thornton Academy, that’s always a good meet,” Beattie said. “They always have a very competitive team.”

Season outlook: “Of course our goal is to get back to the state meet,” Beattie said. “We’re shooting to get past that one point we needed to win the state title last year, so that’s definitely going to be a big objective for us. I would say it’s the focus of our season.”

Swimming

Coach: Seth Glidden

Season outlook: “It looks great for Bonny Eagle,” Glidden said. “We have lot of swimmers returning from last year, and quite a lot of new swimmers this year. This has brought the numbers of the team to the most that we’ve ever had. We have a tough schedule this year, and with all the new and returning swimmers on board, it looks alike a great season for us.”
