AUGUSTA — Gov. John Baldacci says Maine’s business climate and economy are slowly beginning to improve.
In his weekly radio address today, the governor said the 12 Maine businesses that were named by Inc. magazine as among the fastest-growing, private companies in America are testament that companies can grow and thrive in Maine.
Baldacci said his administration has worked to reduce the cost of doing business in Maine, while offering incentives to encourage job creation, such as the Pine Tree economic development zones.
At the same time, he said government has gotten smaller and the state’s regulatory framework has been streamlined.
In the Republican response, Assistant Senate Majority Leader Debra Plowman of Hampden says her party’s already busy making Maine more hospitable to job creation.
