WESTBROOK – While the overall team title went to Massabesic, the Bonny Eagle Scots wrestling team had a good day at the Westbrook Invitational tournament on Saturday, securing two individual championships at the event.

The Mustangs won a very close battle for the team title with 149.5 points, just edging out Marshwood, which finished second with 148 and Mountain Valley rounded out the top three with 114. Cony placed fourth with 84 points, just ahead of fifth-place Mt. Ararat, which finished with 82. Westbrook’s “A” team was sixth with 75 points, Bonny Eagle was seventh with 57.5, Sanford was eighth with 46, Scarborough was ninth with 27.5, Cheverus was 10th with 21, Brunswick was 11th with 20.5, Deering was 12th with 20 and the Westbrook “B” team was 13th with 9 points.

The Scots’ Ryan Cook took home the title in the 152-pound weight class by winning a 6-4 decision over Mt. Ararat’s Malcom Marshall. Two local wrestlers squared off for the championship at 160 pounds, and in the end, it was Bonny Eagle’s Troy Severance getting the win over Westbrook’s Troy Fogg with a pinfall at 3:20 of the title match.

The Blue Blazes also got a second-place finish from Steve Sawyer at 171 pounds. Sawyer dropped a 9-3 decision to Massabesic’s Andrew Tripp in the championship match.

In the consolation bracket, the Blazes’ Mike LaCourse took third place at 130 pounds when his opponent and teammate, Ben Arsenault was unable to compete due to injury. Westbrook’s Graham Strondak placed third overall at 152 pounds after securing a 13-4 major decision over Marshwood’s Dan Lizotte.

At 140 pounds, Westbrook’s Craig DiBiase came up on the short end of a 9-5 decision to finish fourth behind Sanford’s Jose Noyola, Westbrook’s Devon Grant was fourth at 215 pounds after falling 14-7 to Sanford’s Nick Bagley and Bonny Eagle’s Isaiah Reynolds was fourth at 285 pounds after being pinned by Mt. Ararat’s Iven Leet at 3:47 of their consolation match.
