PORTLAND – Griffin Brady scored 17 points and Cheverus used a 22-10 run in the third quarter Thursday night to pull away for a 49-28 win over Portland in an SMAA boys’ basketball game.

Cam Olson scored all seven of his points in the third quarter, and the Stags (4-0) forced seven turnovers as they opened a 38-22 lead.

Mike Herrick scored 14 points for Portland (1-3). 

SCARBOROUGH 54, NOBLE 33: Zach Bean scored eight of his 14 points during a 16-2 third-quarter run to lead the Red Storm (5-0) past the Knights (0-5) at North Berwick.

Mitch Edmunds led Noble with seven points. 

OLD ORCHARD BEACH 51, TRAIP ACADEMY 49: Ryan Gallant scored 17 points, and Ryheem Lang finished with 15 points and 14 rebounds as the Seagulls (4-1) edged the visiting Rangers (3-3).

Andrew Fleury had a pivotal steal followed by two free throws down the stretch to preserve the win.

Nathan Westman scored 22 points for Traip.

LEWISTON 60, BRUNSWICK 45: Shawn Ricker scored 15 points and the Blue Devils (4-1) overcame a 35-33 halftime deficit against the Dragons (2-2) at Brunswick.

Mitchell Black led the Dragons with 16 points.

CONY 65, MORSE 29: Walker Cooper and Keith Priest each had 13 points as the Rams (3-2) downed the Shipbuilders (0-5) at Augusta.

Jordan Lister had nine points for Morse.

CAMDEN HILLS 79, ROCKLAND 37: Tyler MacFarland scored 30 points as the Windjammers (5-0) cruised past the Tigers (1-4) at Rockport.

RICHMOND 53, RANGELEY 43: Michael Christie had 24 points and four steals for the Bobcats (4-0), who pulled away in the second half against the Lakers (3-1) at Rangeley.

Alex Morton scored 14 points for Rangeley.

HOCKEY

PORTLAND 5, GORHAM 2: Marcus Griffin had two goals, and Mike Fuller, Zach Luce and Kiernan Cummings also scored for the Bulldogs (3-1) against the Rams (1-3) at the Portland Ice Arena.

Cummings scored his first varsity goal one minute into the third period during his first shift of the season.

Bronson Guimond had two assists and Jon Gatti made 16 saves for Portland.

Steven Broy and Connor Smith scored, and Nate Holloran stopped 32 shots for Gorham.

CHEVERUS 3, KENNEBUNK 2: Nic Lops, Harry Ridge and Cameron McLain scored as the Stags (3-0) beat the Rams (1-3) at the Portland Ice Arena.

Max Boucher made 28 saves, and Tommy Sullivan had a pair of assists.

Tyler Fowles and D.J. Robinson scored for Kennebunk. 

DEERING 6, BONNY EAGLE 1: The Rams (1-3) scored five unanswered goals to defeat the Scots (1-4) at Portland.

Connor Petropoulos finished with two goals and three assists, and Denny Patenaude added a pair of goals.

Ben Lariviere scored for Bonny Eagle, and Chris Derrah made 34 saves.

SACOPEE VALLEY/WINDHAM 2, MASSABESIC/OOB 1: Greg Morrison and Owen Phillips each scored for Sacopee Valley/Windham (1-4) against Massabesic/Old Orchard Beach (0-3) at the MGH Center in Saco.

Morrison scored a short-handed goal with 2:57 left in the first period when he put in the rebound of a shot by Zack Fyler.

Phillips made it 2-0, one-timing a pass from behind the net by Danny Stewart with 4:39 left in the second period. Chris Gagne also assisted on the goal.

Chris Pierce scored for Massabesic/Old Orchard Beach with about two minutes left.

NOBLE 6, SCARBOROUGH 4: David Sullivan scored four goals and set up another as the Knights (4-0) cruised past the Red Storm (1-3) at Scarborough.

Jesse Cotty and Grady Wheeler also scored for Noble, and Dana Woodworth had two assists.

Jordan Bathe had a goal and an assist for Scarborough.

GREELY 9, LEAVITT 2: Devyn Rogers had three goals to lead the Rangers (5-0) over the Hornets (1-3) at Family Ice Center in Falmouth.

Kenny Richards added two goals, and John Downey, Griffin Demick, Ted Hart and Andrew Hackett also scored for Greely.

MHW 3, MT. ARARAT 1: Jason Laporte had two goals and an assist as the Hawks (3-2) beat the Eagles (1-2-1) at Watson Arena in Brunswick.

Chris McIntire made 30 saves and Neal Burgess scored for Mt. Ararat.
