DURHAM, N.H. — A University of New Hampshire study shows that college students continue to use their cell phones in class, even though they know it negatively affects their classroom performance.
In a schoolwide study involving 1,265 students, researchers at the UNH Whittemore School of Business and Economics found that nearly all students – 99 percent – own a cell phone.
About half the students said using cell phones in class affects their ability to concentrate and how much information they get out of the class.
The study showed that the most-used phone feature in class is a clock, followed by texting.
