LEGO, Habitat building event

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Portland is hosting the YOUth Can Build LEGO House Buildathon from 1-4 p.m. Jan. 15 at the Maine Mall.

The annual event will help Habitat put the finishing touches on a house in Westbrook, the future home of a single mother and her three children.

Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. Teams of youth, adults, and families will build from 1 to 3:15 p.m. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged. Organizers are asking for a minimum donation of $20 per builder. The snow date is Jan. 22.

Ballroom and relationships

Peoples United Methodist Church is hosting a 6-week ballroom dancing and relationship building class for couples at 7 p.m. Mondays through Feb. 14 at 310 Broadway.

Ann Rita Smith of Maine Ballroom Dancing will hold an hour-long ballroom. The classes will cover a mix of swing and either tango or rumba according to interest.

The class will be followed by an hour relationship enrichment class called “Couple Checkup,” led by Gwyneth and Jamie Arrison, co-pastors at the church.

Trauma Intervention event

The Trauma Intervention Program is looking for adults in th Portland area to join its team of volunteers.

The program was established by CommunityCounselingCenter o provide support to victims of traumatic events and their families.

An open house will be 6 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 19 at the Portland Police Station on Middle Street for people interested in becoming a volunteer.

Volunteers are called to work in cooperation with police and fire departments in Portland, South Portland, Cape Elizabeth, Gorham, Windham, Falmouth, Scarborough and Westbrook, as well as with emergency room personnel at Maine Medical Center.

Food-addiction program

Food Addicts in Recovery Anonymous will be holding public information sessions this month.

The meetings will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday, 6:30 p.m. Monday and 7 p.m. Jan. 20 at 30 Liza Harmon Road in the Larrabee Village Administration Buildingk.

Food Addicts in Recovery is an anonymous and free Twelve Step recovery program for people suffering from food obsessions, overeating, under-eating or bulimia.

Embroiderers’ Guild

Southern Maine Chapter, Embroiderers’ Guild of America, will hold a meeting from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 18 at Yarmouth Town Hall.
