AUGUSTA  — Gov. Paul LePage is about to take his first action on Maine budget matters as he presents a revised spending blueprint for the fiscal year that ends June 30.

But the governor’s supplemental budget, which is to be unveiled this afternoon, is overshadowed by the budget his administration is compiling for the two years starting in July. That spending package must account for a yawning gap between projected revenues and spending obligations.

The so-called supplemental budget to be presented today will reflect revenue and spending changes in the six months ahead. That budget faces legislative review and votes in the next few weeks.

The Republican governor has already ordered a continuation of a state government hiring freeze.
