BANGOR — Brendan York scored 15 points and top-seeded Central Aroostook (21-0) cruised to the Eastern Class D boys’ basketball championship Saturday afternoon with a 49-26 win over No. 2 Jonesport-Beals at the Bangor Auditorium.

Jordan McLaughlin and Mike McClung each scored 12 points for the Panthers, who held Jonesport-Beals (18-2) nearly 50 points below its scoring average for the season.

Justin Alley and Zach Smith each had six points for the Royals.

EASTERN CLASS D GIRLS

WASHBURN 50, DEER ISLE-STONINGTON 43: Carmen Bragg scored seven of her 12 points in the fourth quarter, and the top-seeded Beavers (19-2) overcame a 17-point deficit in the second half to beat the sixth-seeded Mariners (18-3) in the regional final.

Deer Isle-Stonington, led by Britnie Jones with 14 points, carried a 36-29 lead into the fourth quarter.

Rebecca Campbell and Nicole Olson each scored 11 points for the Beavers.

EASTERN CLASS C BOYS

LEE ACADEMY 48, PENQUIS 27: The top-ranked Pandas (19-1) overcame slow-down tactics by the fourth-ranked Patriots (14-6) and pulled away in the second half to advance to Monday’s regional final at the Bangor Auditorium.

Lee led 10-2 at halftime, then broke it open with a 28-point third quarter as it beat Penquis for the third time this season. 

SUMNER 49, PENOBSCOT VALLEY 44: Gabe O’Brien scored 15 points and the sixth-ranked Tigers (17-3) used a 15-7 run in the fourth quarter to upset the second-ranked Howlers (16-4) in a regional semifinal.

Joe McCloskey, Penobscot Valley’s 6-foot-7 senior center, fought through constant double teams to finish with 19 points and 14 rebounds.
