The York Art Association will host the Southern Maine Clay Guild’s third annual Winter Clay Show and Sale today to March 27.

Hundreds of pottery pieces will be displayed, including decorative and functional items. The work will range from the horsehair raku pieces of Cathie Cantara to the shino-glazed ware of Mary Sweeney.

Other featured artists will include Al Pelletier, Clare Rogers, MaryAnn Fleming, Kathleen King, Jill Burke, Sue Berman, Diane Aramando, Amy Clark and Elaine X. Fuller.

An opening reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday. Regular exhibition hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday to Sunday.

The Southern Maine Clay Guild was formed in 2005. The group strives to push the medium’s limits by sharing developments in clay techniques, glaze chemistry and various methods of firing. Members range from beginner to professional.

The guild also will present Empty Bowls from 5 to 7 p.m. March 25. Empty Bowls is an international grass-roots movement with a mission to raise awareness and money for organizations trying to end hunger.

York High School will join guild members by creating bowls to sell as part of the event. Local restaurants will fill these bowls with a sampling of soups and breads. The bowls can be taken home after the event. Proceeds benefit the York Food Pantry.

The cost is $15 per adult bowl and $10 per child bowl. For more information regarding Empty Bowls, contact Mary Sweeney at 363-6937 or msweeney5@mac.com. For information, visit www.yorkartassociation.com.
