• The Midcoast Symphony Orchestra, with guest conductor Graybert Beacham at the podium, presents “Spring the Light Fantastic,” a concert featuring the music of Suk, Debussy, Pierne and Schumann, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Franco-American Heritage Center in Lewiston and at2:30 p.m. March 20 at Orion Performing Arts Center, Topsham.

• The Public Theatre in Lewiston opens “Humble Boy” this week. The bittersweet comedy won the London Critics’ Circle best new play award. It’s a story about the joys and stings of love and family. • The Maine Jewish Film Festival opens March 26 in Portland, featuring internationally- and locally-made independent films. This year’s festival includes films from Mexico, Argentina, Belgium, France, Israel, Ireland, Romania and other countries. Two locally-made short films will also be featured in the festival.

Overall, the festival will screen 12 features, selected episodes from one television series, and eight short films during its six-day run from March 26-31. Visiting artists, panel discussions and receptions also are part of the schedule. The films include documentaries, musicals, comedies, psychodrama and animation.

The festival opens March 26 with a kick-off party at Greenhut Galleries in Portland, followed by the 8 p.m. screening of the award-winning Mexican film “Nora’s Will.” Visit www.mjff.org for more details.

• American Irish Repertory Ensemble presents “Brendan,” a contemporary comedy about a young Irishman trying to adjust to life in America. It opens March 31 and runs through April 16 at the studio theater at Portland Stage Company, 25A Forest Ave., Portland.

This will be the Maine premiere of the show, written by Boston playwright Ronan Noone. Tickets cost $20. Visit www.airetheater.com.
