GORHAM – The Gorham School Department has named Massabesic High School Athletic Director Tim Spear as the replacement for the retiring Gerry Durgin.

Spear’s appointment will take effect on July 1. According to a release from the Gorham School Department, Spear was selected from a pool of 30 applicants.

“The Gorham schools have been privileged to have Gerry Durgin as the AD for many years and we believe that we are now privileged to have Tim Spear as our next AD,” said Gorham Superintendent Ted Sharp. “We look forward to a long and successful tenure for Tim here in Gorham.”

Spear, who lives in Waterboro with his wife and two children, graduated from the University of New England with a degree in sports fitness and management and business management. He is currently the president of the Southern Maine Middle School Athletic Conference and he served as co-director of the Northern New England Hockey Academy for several years. Additionally, Spear has worked as an assistant coach of soccer, basketball, softball, and baseball during his career.

Durgin will remain at the school during the transition and Spear will be working with him and other school staff to ensure a seamless transition in July, the school department’s release said.
