PORTLAND — The Portland Sea Dogs scored a run in each of the first two innings, and that was plenty.

Three Sea Dogs pitchers combined for a shutout as Portland beat the Reading Phillies 2-0 today at Hadlock Field.

Stephen Fife (1-0) threw a three-hitter over five innings. Seth Garrison and Blake Maxwell each added two innings of scoreless relief. Garrison allowed the Phillies’ other two hits.

Tim Federowicz’s sacrifice fly scored Alex Hassan in the first inning.

In the second inning, Will Middlebrooks led off with a triple and scored on Will Vazquez’s groundout to second base.

The Sea Dogs will play host to the Trenton Thunder at 6 p.m. Monday. The two teams will wear the uniforms of their parents clubs, the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees.
