STANDISH – There were no children or workers inside a day care center Wednesday night when a car hit an exterior wall, causing extensive damage to the rooms inside.

Standish police said the car struck the Little Tykes Daycare 2 at 48 Pequawket Trail around 6:30 p.m.

The driver was taken by ambulance to a hospital with unknown injuries. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The day care center’s owner, Crystal Frost, told WGME-TV in Portland that the center will be closed today and Friday while repairs are made.
