A girl was taken to the hospital Wednesday night after sustaining burns to her face in Limington.
Limington Fire Chief Michael Hartford said it appeared the girl received the burns after someone poured gas into a fire in a fire pit. By the time a fire truck got to the scene, she was gone, he said.
A 911 call from Hollis reported the incident at 7:30 p.m. The girl was picked up by an ambulance in that town and taken to the hospital, said Hollis Fire Chief George Davis.
A York County dispatcher said the state Fire Marshal’s Office is now handling the investigation.
Neither fire chief knew the age of the girl, her hometown, or to which hospital she was taken.
