WASHINGTON – Airport screeners will have to wait a few more weeks before finding out which union will represent them in collective bargaining talks with the government.
Neither of the two unions vying to represent 44,000 workers at the Transportation Security Administration captured a majority of votes cast.
The American Federation of Government Employees won 8,369 votes, or 43 percent, and the National Treasury Employees Union won 8,095 votes, or 41 percent. The choice of no union got 3,111 votes, or 16 percent.
To win outright, one of the unions had to win 50 percent plus one vote of all votes cast. A runoff election will be held to decide a winner.
