BENTON, N.H. — Up to 240 acres of the nearly 800,000-acre White Mountain National Forest of New Hampshire and Maine will be burned this spring in part to maintain grassy meadows or shrubby areas for wildlife.
Spring burning will begin this month once officials determine that the right wind, weather and moisture levels are present to burn safely.
The Forest Service plans to burn areas in eight New Hampshire towns and two in Maine, with sites ranging from one to 54 acres in size.
Most of the sites are well away from populated areas.
