BRUNSWICK — Frances Clark Hokanson, 90, died April 29 at Sedgewood Commons.  

Born in Melrose, Mass., on Sept. 16, 1920, a daughter of George S. and Bessie Baillie Clark, she was raised in Quincy, Mass. and graduated from Quincy High School in 1938.  

After graduating from The Charles School for secretarial studies in Cambridge, Mass., in 1941, she began her professional career at a local bank.

While working as a receptionist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, she met her future husband, Wolcott A. “Hokie” Hokanson, Jr.

On April 5, 1947, they  married and moved to Brunswick, where she worked at Bowdoin College while he finished his studies at Bowdoin.  

Later on she enjoyed participating in the alumni activities of the Bowdoin Class of 1950.

An active community volunteer, she supported numerous organizations, including the Coffin School, Regional Memorial Hospital, Curtis Memorial Library, the Village Improvement Association, and First Parish Church.  

She was a wonderful mother, accomplished seamstress and homemaker.

Her family wishes to thank all the wonderful staff at Sedgewood Commons for their kind and tender care.  

She was predeceased by her husband Hokie in 1995, a son, Ross Baillie Hokanson, in 1984, and her sister Roberta Clark Hope in 1978.

Surviving are two sons, Bradley and his family of Santa Rita, Guam; Clark and his family of Brunswick; and daughter Kimberly and her family of Medfield, Mass.; daughter-in-law Claudette and her family of Biddeford; and nieces and nephews, Eric Hope, Beverly Hope, Cindy Hope, Harriet Hope, and Harry Hope, and their families.

Memorial services will be private.

Arrangements are by Stetson’s Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick.
