AUGUSTA — The Maine Warden Service is beefing up its patrols on the lookout for impaired boaters.
The warden service is participating in a nationwide weekend crackdown called Operation Dry Water that aims to reduce alcohol- and drug-related accidents on the water. It’s coordinated by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators in partnership with states, the U.S. Coast Guard and other organizations.
For the initiative, the warden service is increasing boating patrols across Maine. Officials say every warden on duty this weekend will be working on the water.
The warden service says Operation Dry Water last year resulted in more than 320 boating-under-the-influence arrests across the country, along with 4,100 citations and 7,500 safety warnings.
