Love for Laura Cancer Benefit, 6 p.m., Chicago Dogs, Route 1, Scarborough. A portion of the evening’s proceeds will be donated for medical and living expenses for a 24-year-old Scarborough High School graduate who has been undergoing treatment for cancer. A raffle will be held for various donated items and gift cards.

The South Portland Library kicks off a pet supply drive for the Animal Refuge League, Meet Don Carrigan and Togus the Cat from 1-4 p.m. They will be signing their new book “Togus The Coon Cat Finds a Home.” Donations can be dropped at the branch location, as well.

Benefit organ concert, 7 p.m., Blue Point Congregational Church, 236 Pine Point Road, Scarborough, by Mark Rossnagel, a senior Arabic language/organ performance student at SUNY who is summering with his family in Pine Point. Assisting him will be Nancy Landsman, music director of the church. This concert is the first of several fundraising events planned repair and maintenance fund toward “We LOVE our Austin Organ.” Free-will donation/offering will be accepted. 883-6540.

Saturday, Aug. 13

Lobster bake, American Legion Post 76, Libby Road, Scarborough, serving 1-4 p.m. $20 per person, $10 for children. Menu includes two lobsters, steamers, corn on the cob, salads and desserts. First Festival of Music, organized by South Portland High School alumni to benefit the school, 6 p.m. at the high school auditorium. Proceeds will go to the South Portland Music Boosters. The festival will feature The Modest Proposal (winner of the 2011 MAMM Slam competition), Educated Advocates (featuring Kristina Kentigan SPHS grad), Pecan Sandies (featuring SPHS grads and current students), Eli Noll and his band from Chicago (SPHS grad) and Neil Pearlman Band (SPHS grad).
