PORTLAND – Brandon Saucier scored off a punt from goalkeeper Jamie Gullbrand in the final second of the first half Saturday and Deering went on to a 1-0 victory against Massabesic in a Southern Maine Activities Association schoolboy soccer game.

Gullbrand punted the ball over the defense and Saucier ran onto it and beat the Massabesic goalkeeper with a shot.

CHEVERUS 4, SANFORD 1: Elliot Maker scored three second-half goals as the Stags pulled away from a 1-1 halftime tie in an opener at Sanford.

Alex Hoglund opened the scoring for Cheverus. Sanford tied it when Connor McGehee scored from Gabriel Zimmer.

FALMOUTH 5, POLAND 0: Grant Burfiend scored twice, and Luke Velas added a goal and two assists for the Yachtsmen, who scored five second-half goals in an opener at Falmouth.

Andy Murray also had two assists, and J.P. White and Ben Freeman added one goal apiece.

Dylan Douglass finished with 15 saves for Poland.

YORK 2, GREELY 1: Pierce Twohig scored off a scramble in front following a corner kick 1:29 into the second overtime for the Wildcats in an opener at Cumberland.

Greely opened the scoring on an unassisted goal by Keegan Donnelly after 2:44. York tied it when Brian Mendoza scored off a corner kick by Tyler Martin after 14:44 of the second half.

Nate Diffin finished with six saves for York. Elijah Leverett of Greely stopped eight shots.


WINDHAM 8, PORTLAND 0: Luisa Sbardella scored twice, and Bebe Butts added a goal and two assists for the Eagles in an opener at Windham.

Kate Kneeland stopped two shots to earn the shutout. Mishale Nabi finished with 15 saves for Portland.


GREELY 2, NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 0: Ceci Hodgkins broke a scoreless tie with a goal 4:18 into the second half as the Rangers (1-0) beat the Panthers (1-1) at Cumberland.

Cassie Deck made the score 2-0 at 13:57.

LAKE REGION 7, POLAND 0: Alice Sanborn had four goals to carry the Lakers (1-1) over the Knights (0-2) at Naples.

Monica Couvillion assisted Sanborn twice and added a goal herself.

WATERVILLE 2, OCEANSIDE 1: Jena Nawfel scored both goals for the Purple Panthers (2-0) against Oceanside (1-1) at Rockland.

Nawfel scored in the first half from Jenna Gagnon, then converted a penalty stroke with 1:14 to play.

YARMOUTH 4, TRAIP ACADEMY 0: Four players scored for the Clippers (1-0-1) against the Rangers (0-2) at Yarmouth.

Yarmouth got goals from Kallie Hutchinson, Carlene Shaw, Lilly Daggett and Fiona Clarke. Daggett also had an assist.

Meaghan Gorman had three saves for the shutout. Emily Bolton had seven for Traip.


SCARBOROUGH 3, CAPE ELIZABETH 0: Emily Robbins had 16 assists as the Red Storm (2-0) defeated the Capers (0-2) at Scarborough.

Brittany Bona had eight kills and four aces. Rachel Webber added five kills and four aces.
