PRIVATE SCHOOL HONOR ROLLS

Pomfret (Conn.) School: Jon Pate, a senior from Saco, earned honors.

Westminster School, Simsbury, Conn.: Sophmores Katherine Pate of Saco and Erik Rost of Cumberland earned honors.

AWARDS

The Gorham Savings Bank “Anything is Possible” poster contest grand prize winner is Josie LeBlanc of Westbrook. She won $1,000 for her fifth-grade class at Congin School in Westbrook. Her design will also appear on reusable shopping bags that will be given away at the bank’s branches while supplies last.

Cape Elizabeth robotics teams finished first at the Southern Maine VEX Tournament held earlier this month at the University of Southern Maine, Gorham. Both teams qualified for the VEX National Championship in Omaha, Neb., in March.

The middle school team included Mac Brucker, Sam Price, Mac Huffard, Kyle Long and Will Corsello.

They also received the Judges Award for  teamwork, competitive robot design and enthusiasm for robotics.

The high school team included sophomores Anthony Castro and Luke Dvorozniak. In addition to qualifying for the national competition, they received the Excellence Award which qualified them for the April world championship in Anaheim, Calif.

A Programming Skills Award, for an autonomous-mode robot scoring the most points in one minute, was awarded to the team of Jasper Hansel, Leah Parrish, Ian Schrank and Matthew Reale-Hatem.

Other participating students were Walker Grimes, Robert Harrison and Andrew Volent.

Thornton Academy Middle School, Saco, has announced that Erin Acheson, Laurel Kirby, Paige LeBlanc and Connor Hevey, all of Arundel, and Grace Pickering of Saco, were recently inducted into the school’s chapter of the National Junior Honor Society.
