DOVER, NH — Walter W. Coffman, 81, formally of Brunswick, ME, died at Langdon Place in Dover, NH on Sunday December 4, 2011.

Born January 16, 1930 in Los Angeles, CA, the son of Alvin W. and Margaret (Bonner) Coffman. He retired from the US Navy as a test pilot and Commanding Officer. In his retirement he worked as a craftsman and surveyor, and helped establish and manage the United Pejebscot Senior Housing in Brunswick.

Walter was a member of St. Paul’s Church in Brunswick, ME and St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Dover, NH. In Brunswick he acted as Senior Warden. He was a member of the Brunswick Area Model Airplane club for 25 years, a member of a Seaplane Pilots Association, and an avid sailor. He worked as an Election Warden while living in Brunswick, ME and took part in the President Senior Volunteer

Program.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Helen L. (Sunda) Coffman of Dover, NH; two sons, Fredrick W. Coffman of Naples, FL and Mark A. Coffman of Port Charlotte, FL; a daughter, Cynthia J. Wood and her husband Donald K. Wood of Dover, NH; three Grandsons; Nicholas J. Wood of Burlington, VT, Christopher J. Wood of Dover, NH and Samuel J. Wood of Dover, NH. He is also survived by a brother, Bill L. Coffman of Sacramento, CA; and a sister Virgina M. Everett of Nevada.

Although eligible for burial at Arlington National Cemetery he had chosen to be laid to rest in Brunswick with his wife, at her time of passing.
