Clare Egan races Tuesday morning in the 2012 U.S. Cross Country Championships at Black Mountain in Rumford, where she came in 19th among 152 women and qualified for the quarterfinals in the 1.4-kilometer sprints. A Cape Elizabeth native now racing for the Craftsbury Green Racing Project in Vermont, Egan wound up third in her quarterfinal heat and did not advance to the semifinals. She finished 13th overall in the quarterfinals. “Top 15 is good,” she said, adding that she plans to race in the 10K freestyle Thursday, the 20K classical with a mass start Friday and Sunday’s classical sprints.
