FREEPORT – Nina Davenport hit a layup with 20 seconds left Wednesday and Freeport went on to a 53-52 victory against Yarmouth in a Western Maine Conference schoolgirl basketball game.

After the Clippers (2-5) missed a free throw while protecting a 52-51 lead, Freeport (3-3) inbounded from halfcourt. Davenport, breaking around a screen from the midcourt stack, caught the lob pass in stride and drove in for the winning basket.

Davenport finished with 26 points. Morgan Cahill scored 22 and Shannon Fallon 10 for Yarmouth.

YORK 43, FALMOUTH 41: Emily Campbell and Andrea Mountford scored 11 points each as York (6-1) beat the Yachtsmen (5-2) at Falmouth.

The Wildcats gradually opened a lead that reached 10 points in the fourth period before a late Falmouth rally.

Jackie Doyle led Falmouth with 10 points.

SEACOAST CHRISTIAN 43, SACOPEE VALLEY 26: Jenny English scored seven of her 13 points in the third period as Seacoast Christian (4-2) used a 15-5 run to turn a 17-15 halftime deficit into a 30-22 lead against the Hawks (1-5) at South Hiram.

The Guardians pulled away with a 13-4 fourth-period edge.

WAYNFLETE 41, CAPE ELIZABETH 35: Martha Veroneau scored 16 points and the Flyers (4-2) rallied late to defeat the Capers (2-5) at Cape Elizabeth.

Rhiannan Jackson added 11 points for Waynflete, which outscored the Capers 13-2 over the final 31/2 minutes.

POLAND 51, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 48: The Knights (1-6) used an 11-8 overtime edge to get by the Patriots (3-3) at Poland.

Lindsey Theriault hit a pair of free throws with less than 10 seconds left in overtime to give Poland a 49-48 lead, and Melora Lavoie added the final two points with a jumper after a steal.

NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 43, HYDE 39: Charlotte Essancy had 21 points and 11 rebounds for the Panthers (3-4), who took a 21-6 halftime lead and held off a fourth-quarter charge by Hyde (0-3) at Bath.

Morgan Scully added 12 points for NYA.

Kara Fischer scored 27 points for the Phoenix, who had a 25-14 advantage in the fourth quarter.

HOCKEY

CHEVERUS 3, BIDDEFORD 1: Annie Delisio’s goal 3:18 into the game started the Stags (4-5) on their way to a victory over Biddeford (4-7) at Portland.

Staci Swallow added a second-period goal for Cheverus, and Katie Roy made it 3-0 five minutes into the third before Cassidy Petit broke through for the Tigers at 11:52 of the third.

GREELY 7, ST. DOMINIC 2: Sarah Kurland had three goals and an assist for the Rangers (8-2), who took a 4-0 lead against the Saints (1-10) in the first 10 minutes at Falmouth.

Mary Morrison and Shannon Love each added a goal and an assist for Greely. Monica Howland and Paige Tuller also scored.
