HAMPDEN — The Mt. Ararat boys basketball team hit the road on Tuesday, falling to 8-1 Hampden Academy 70-58 in a high school Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference affair.

Josh Wright led the 0- 9 Eagles with 15 points, while Brett Martin added 14 points, DJ Cole 11 and Alex LaPierre seven.

Christian McCue paced Hampden with a game-high 20 points. Fred Knight chipped in 16, Logan Poirier 12 and Zach Gilpin 10.

At the foul line, the Eagles were five of eight and the Broncos 10 of 14.

Mt. Ararat hung around with Hampden until midway through the fourth quarter when the Broncos went on a 12-2 run to open up a 15-point lead, then sealed it with free throws at the end.

The Eagles are slated to host Brewer on Friday at 7 p.m.

On Tuesday, Morse dipped to 2- 7 and is scheduled to host Maine Central Institute on Thursday.

Morse trailed 23-7, 46-14 and 62-28 at the quarter breaks.

Ted Cole led the way for the Shipbuilders with 10 points.

For Camden, Taylor Hall had 24 points and Adam Carlsen 14 points and several assists.

“Camden’s up-tempo offense and post presence controlled the game from start to finish,” said Morse coach Todd Flaherty.

The visiting Falcons fell behind 17-8 after a quarter in a Western Maine Conference loss at Fryeburg.

“It was a long bus ride and we didn’t get off the bus,” said Freeport coach Matt Cook, whose squad is 1-7 and visits Greely on Thursday. “The intensity I’ve been proud of wasn’t there, and Fryeburg played well.”

Fryeburg (1-7) led 35-15 at the half and 53-26 through 24 minutes. Mike Costa and Bright Amoaka each had 14 points, with Walker Mallory adding 11. The hosts were seven of 10 at the free-throw line.

Mitch Loeman led Freeport with 12 points and Josh Weirich had eight. The Falcons finished six of 12 at the line.
