BATH — Stewart Conrad Place, 91, resident of Chin Place in Orr’s Island died Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at Winship Green in Bath following a long illness. He was born November 1, 1920 in Arlington, MA a son of Carl and Mabel (Stewart) Place. He attended schools in Massachusetts.

Stewart came to Maine in 1966 and owned and operated the Dockside Motor Inn and Restaurant on Bailey Island for many years. He was a former member of the Lions Club and enjoyed spending time woodworking.

He was an avid fisherman who owned a charter fishing boat named “The Striker”. For many years, Stewart was an active participant and ran the local tuna fishing tournament.

He was predeceased by his wife Marie H. (Thornburg) Place who died in 1999.

Survivors include two daughters, Sharon Yamin of Carrollton, TX, Susan D. and her husband Paul Bernat of Sunrise, FL, a brother Bruce Place of Bonita Beach, FL, a sister Jean Gosbee of Ipswich, MA, eleven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

Services will be private. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice in Stewart’s memory. Arrangements are under the direction and care of Brackett Funeral Home, Brunswick.
