The Maine Essential Tremor Support Group will meet from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Maine Medical Center’s Scarborough Learning Resource Center on Campus Drive.

Cancer center offers classes

The Cancer Community Center is offering two classes this week.

Bob Beane, a Shamanic Practitioner, will give a class on Shamanic Healing from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the center, 778 Main St.

Beane will use drumming vibrations, incense, and voice guidance to show people how to reduce stress and encourage your body to heal.

Another presentation on Social Security disability benefits will be offered from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the center.

The Portland Water District is holding an event Friday for preschoolers to join them for environmentally themed stories, a colorful outdoor snow activity and take-home crafts.

Red Cross certification training

Saint Joseph’s College is offering a

babysitter’s training and first aid certification course from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Harold Alfond Center.

The course will provide young people, ages 11 to 15, with the information and skills necessary to provide safe and responsible care for children in the absence of parents or guardians.

Some of the topics include leadership, caregiving, first aid skills, safe play and safety. Students will be given a comprehensive babysitter’s training manual and the tools needed to create a babysitter’s kit.

The cost is $55 or $45 for recertification.

New exhibit open

Sanford-Springvale Historical Society has created a new exhibit of Sanford Mills carriage robes, which will be open to the public this week at its historical museum, 505 Main St.
