WOOLWICH — The Woolwich Central School boys basketball team beat Richmond Middle School 59-53 in Busline League semifinal action on Wednesday.
Woolwich improved to 14-0 and the Bobcats fell to 10-4.
Woolwich trailed 14-7 after one quarter and 29-24 at the half.
“Richmond deserved a lot of credit, they were playing great, but we were also as flatfooted as I have seen us all year,” said Woolwich coach Shawn Elwell.
Woolwich outscored Richmond 15-2 to open the third quarter and led 45-35 at the break.
However, Henry Geoffrion fouled out after scoring a season high 25 points. In the fourth quarter, WCS maintained the lead with strong offensive play by Dakota Freeman and Zack Fifield, who combined for 14 points. Defensively, and on the boards, Tyler Young and Jeremy Thiboutot were outstanding.
Geoffrion finished a doubledouble, including 10 rebounds., with Freeman adding 14 points and six assists, Fifield 12 points and 20 rebounds, and Young and Jacob Cressey four points each.
Richmond’s Brendon Emmons and Matt Holt had 11 points each, Cody Tribbett nine, and Brady Johnson and Tyler Soucy eight each.
In quarterfinal action, Woolwich hosted Appleton and led 22-8, 40-16 and 56-28 en route to a 76-30 win.
Fifield led all scorers with 21 points and 12 rebounds, Geoffrion had 16 and 10 and Cressey 14 and 10. Freeman chipped in with 10 points, eight assists and seven steals.
Morgan Ford, Owen Hilt and Nick Cammelieri all had six points to lead Appleton.
