Math league meet results

Southern Maine Elementary Math League, held Jan. 11 at Holiday Inn by the Bay in Portland included 52 teams of fifth and sixth grade students from the area.

Top fifth grade individual scorers are: First Place: Sawyer LaChance, Kennebunkport Consolidated School, Mason Burke and Ian Zogg both from Sea Road School, Kennebunk; Second Place: a tie between Tyler Bridge, Wells Junior High School and Alice Hauser, Sea Road School; Third Place: Lily Webber, Canal School, Westbrook.

The top three fifth grade teams are: first place: Sea Road School; second place: Mast Landing School, Freeport; third place: Kennebunk Consolidated School.

Top sixth grade individuals are: first place: Shawn Ouellette, Wells Junior High; Jason Rutberg, Harrison Middle School, Yarmouth; Ryan Collins, Cape Elizabeth and Alec Leng, Scarborough Middle School. Second place: Alison Noyes, Falmouth Middle School; Jackie Allaire-MacDonald, Middle School of the Kennebunks; Peter Mao, Mt. Ararat Middle School; Vincent Falardau, Saco Middle School, and Judah Phipps-Costin, Middle School of the Kennebunks. Third place: Rex Noble, Falmouth Middle School; Daniel Howard, Cape Elizabeth Middle School; Lucas Profenno, Lyman Moore Middle School; Alexander Gates, Bath Middle School and Pierce Rotman of Middle School of the Kennebunks.

Top team honors went to Cape Elizabeth Middle School and the Middle School of the Kennebunks for first place, Scarborough Middle School and Wells Junior High School in second, and Greely Middle School in third.

WELLS

Fundraiser: $26,600 results

More than 80 students in the girls basketball program in Wells raised $26,600 for York Hospital’s Breast Cancer Living Well Program.

Students in 5th through 12th grade raised the money as part of its third annual “Shootin’ for a Cure” campaign to raise awarerness and support for breast cancer.

Students presented the check during a halftime ceremony at the varsity girls basketball game between Wells and Traip Academy at Wells High School. The players and most of the fans wore pink at the game and used a pink basketball.

The donation will be used to support women who have been diagnosed and are undergoing treatment for breast cancer.

FRYEBURG

Maine teen scholarship

Fryeburg Academy is offering a new, full scholarship that is available only to Maine teens.

Announced in September, the scholarship will provide full tuition and room and board for a student from Maine. Partial scholarships will also be awarded to qualified applicants. The deadline to apply is Feb. 1.

In addition to the regular application requirements, students must submit an additional essay and interview on campus with the scholarship search committee. For more information, call the Office of Admission at 935-2013.

WATERBORO

Historical book sale

The Friends of Old Corner Church are still selling a book of essays, “Waterborough Old Corner: Memories of the Neighborhood” at Biddeford Savings, Waterboro Public Library and Waterboro Town Hall.

The book contains 13 essays about the town’s history and memories written by Esther L. Smith of Waterboro. The book costs $20.

Proceeds will be used to restore the town’s historic 1804 Old Corner Church.
