WESTBROOK — A water main break that forced Westbrook police to shut down a section of Cumberland Street, between Main and Bridge streets, tonight has been brought under control.

Lt. Michael Nugent said police closed the street to traffic around 4:15 p.m., but were able to reopen the street about 30 minutes later.

Michelle Clements, a spokeswoman for the Portland Water District, said the break occurred on Sappi Fine Paper company’s property and not in the street.

Water district crews are still on the scene trying to assist Sappi with repairing the break.
