YARMOUTH —A local photographer has announced he is focusing his sights on the Maine House of Representatives seat now held by Melissa Walsh Innes.

Dennis Welsh, who specializes in commercial photography for catalogs and advertisements, said he is entering the race for House District 107 because Innes will not seek re-election.

Welsh has not yet filed with the Maine Commission Governmental Ethics and Election Practices, according to the commission website, but he will run against Yarmouth resident Janice Cooper in the June 12 primary to become the Democratic nominee.

Welsh, who is married and a father of three children, said he has lived in town since 1993. His civic involvement includes serving on the Pedestrian and Bicycling Committee and as a youth leader at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church.

Maine House District 107 is comprised entirely of Yarmouth. According to the Ethics Commission website, no Republican candidates have filed to run for the seat.
