PORTLAND — Portland police are investigating a stabbing that took place this afternoon outside a home at 38 Veranda Street.

Lt. Gary Rogers said a 22-year-old male had to be taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland for treatment of a stab wound following the incident.

Rogers said the wound was not life-threatening. The man’s girlfriend is in police custody but has not been charged. Rogers said he is not certain who initiated the assault.

Rogers said the stabbing was the result of a domestic-related incident, but further details were unavailable because police are in the preliminary stages of their investigation.

The stabbing was reported shortly after 3 p.m.
