TOPSHAM —The Board of Selectmen voted to create a Route 196 Corridor Study Committee.
This committee’s mission is to draft a corridor plan as recommended in the 2005 comprehensive plan, according to a press release issued by the town’s planning office. The plan will examine existing land uses, transportation, visual impacts and access issues along the Route 196 corridor, and will make recommendations for improvements to these areas based on community input and desires.
Town staff hope the committee will begin work this month.
Those interested in serving on the committee can contact the Topsham Planning Office at 725- 1724 or [email protected] for application forms, or find the forms on the Topsham website, www.topshammaine.com, by selecting the Boards and Committee tab.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
