FORT MEADE, Md. — An Army private accused of engineering the biggest leak of government secrets in U.S. history is asking a military judge to dismiss the charges.

Oral arguments on Pfc. Bradley Manning’s dismissal motion are scheduled at a pretrial hearing that began today at Fort Meade.

Manning is charged with causing hundreds of thousands of classified war documents and diplomatic cables to be published on the WikiLeaks website. His trial hasn’t been scheduled.

The defense claims military prosecutors have failed to hand over a broad range of documents potentially helpful to the defense.

Rather than restart the discovery process that began two years ago, the defense is asking the judge to dismiss the case.
