ROCKLAND — A Maine woman has been told to stop feeding sea gulls and clean up her property after neighbors complained about the amount of waste the birds were leaving behind.

Susie Gray, 62, of Rockland was issued two violation notices Wednesday by city officials who said the bird poop is a health hazard and a public nuisance.

Gray’s neighbors say they can’t enjoy the outdoors because of the large volume of bird droppings around their homes.

Gray tells the Bangor Daily News the neighbors’ complaints are nonsense. She says most of the bird waste is on her property and she has cut the feedings down from three or four times per day to once per day.

She says two restaurants and a supermarket in the neighborhood attract the birds.
