I am both surprised and concerned that Rep. Amy Volk, R-Scarborough, a first-term legislator, should be allowed to blatantly vilify Steve Minkowski, former deputy director of the Maine Workers’ Compensation Board (Maine Voices, “Don’t fill small-business post with anti-business ex-bureaucrat,” May 9).

Minkowski, along with state Sen. Seth Goodall, D-Richmond, was recommended by U.S. Reps. Chellie Pingree and Mike Michaud to President Obama for an appointment as regional administrator of the Small Business Administration.

Volk goes on to unfairly criticize Minkowski with questionable attacks, calling him an “uncompromising and ruthless enforcer who has always taken an adversarial stance against Maine businesspeople.”

Volk continues her egregious claims, stating that Minkowski has fought with business his entire career, and then questions whether Pingree and Michaud have done their homework.

Is it possible that Volk and her husband (who, along with his father, co-owns Volk Packaging Corp. in Biddeford) have their own personal agenda in attacking Steve Minkowski?
