BATH — Maine State Police detectives are investigating the death this morning of a 6- week-old female in a home in Bath’s South End.
Bath Police Chief Mike Field said this morning that nothing about the death appears suspicious, but that procedure requires Maine State Police to investigate the death of any child younger than 6 years old.
Bath rescue workers responded at 4:50 a.m. today to the home after the child’s father reported that she was unresponsive.
“Bath rescue attempted lifesaving measures,” Field said, and the child was transported to Mid Coast Hospital. “But we learned at 5:50 a.m. that she had passed away.”
Brunswick police responded to the hospital to secure the scene, Brunswick Deputy Chief Marc Hagan said.
Bath police remain at the residence while Maine State Police detectives remain at the hospital before moving to the family’s home, according to Field.
