Maine Attorney General William Schneider, one of six Republicans vying for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Olympia Snowe, will hold a press conference today at 1:30 to discuss his "future plans."

It’s not yet clear what Schneider will say at the presser, but it could be one of several things.

Some readers have emailed wondering if he’ll get out of the race, but that seems unlikely given his campaign’s recent release of a television ad and other activities. Schneider will also be at the Press Herald offices at noon for an online chat, which will accompany his candidate profile that ran today.

It’s worth noting that GOP candidate Rick Bennett has been questioning Schneider and the state’s other two constitutional officers’ ability to take on frontrunner Angus King in the general election. Bennett has said that beating King will be a "full-time job," a statement that suggests the constitutional officers may not be up to the task because of their day jobs.

The press conference will be held at One City Center in the Burton-Fisher meeting room.
