BARNSTABLE, Mass. — Visitors to Hyannis looking to learn more about the Kennedy family don’t need to search out a friendly local resident, as long as they have the proper wireless device.

The 1.6 mile Kennedy Legacy Trail now has a walking tour that enables owners of smartphones and iPads to learn about 10 historic stops along the way.

The Cape Cod Times reports that walkers can use their wireless devices to scan QR codes — similar to bar codes — posted at the stops to bring up audio and visual information.

For instance, the code at the Hyannis Armory brings up video of President John F. Kennedy’s 1960 presidential victory speech there.

The tour was conceived about four years ago and recently got a $50,000 grant from the Massachusetts Gateway Cities program.
